Who launches 5G first? 

South Korea’s SK telecom company, Korean Telecom, has announced the world’s first 5G national telecommunications network on April 3, 2019. On the same day, Cheryson in the US also launched its 5G mobile network. Italy, China, and Japan are also launching 5G telephone networks. Almost every reputable phone manufacturer in the world is launching 5G phone devices in the market. That is, the fifth generation, or 5G telecommunication technology, is now being used worldwide.

What is the standardization for the 5G network?

This 5G technology is the latest technology standard for how networks, including mobile communication devices, should operate. It’s called 5G or 5G new radio, or 5G NR. The previously unused radiofrequency is used to build the connection between the communication center and the mobile device.

Any telecommunication technology should be developed to meet international standards. Only then it can be used on a global scale without any interruption. The standard for 5G telecommunication technology was developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with a standard company called 3GPP. This standard is known as IMT-2020.

It also set the standard for the speed of the network along with provisions for technical applications. Therefore, even when traveling on high-speed vehicles such as cars or electric trains, a 5G communication network should have download speed up to 20Gbps. There should also be an upload speed of 10Gbps data per second. This means that any cellular telephone network that can reach this speed is a 5G network.


There are three main features includes for 5G Network.

High Bandwidth

In these networks, high-frequency radio waves are used to transmit data. They are called millimeter waves. The value of 5G technology is its speed. It is 20 times faster than 4G.

Low latency

Latency is the time of period that takes to respond to a command in any type of network. On 4g networks, this delay is about 50 times per 1000 milliseconds. On 5g networks, this is only 1 millisecond. That means there won’t be any delay on 5g networks.

Support for multiple devices

A network of 5G technology can provide service up to one million devices simultaneously across every square kilometer.

what is the Practical speed of 5G Internet Connection?

The standardized and effective speeds of telecommunications technology are different. That is why broadband speeds in advertising and technical specifications are not really available.

The effective mobile broadband speed is seven to eight times slower than the standard speed. Why? They are: 

  1. In a packet switch system, data is exchanged as files. Increasing the number of users increases the time it takes for one to assign a data file to the other. That means the data transfer rate is slower.
  2. The area covered by a telephone tower is used not only for data transfer but also for voice and MMS services. Therefore, data transfer speeds are slowed down when there are more voice users.
  3. The distance between the receiver and the communication tower affects the speed of data transfer. The signal level is high, but the speed of the data is low if the receiver is far away from the tower.
  4. Not all communications towers have the same speed-delivery capability. Slow speeds come from low-speed towers.
  5. Due to the many defects in telephone network settings, the practical speed is also reduced.
As a result, the 3G speeds compared to the aforementioned speeds are 1.5 – 3mbps, while the 4G LTE speeds are 10 – 20 Mbps. Accordingly, the practical speed of 5G technology is about 100 Mbps. That is about 3.5 times slower than the standard.

But this speed does not last long. Because the current 5G technology is being developed. By the end of 2020, full-speed 5G technology and communication networks are expected to improve.
